PRAISE FOR THE CURE
October 5, 2008

Community Education Initiative

As a breast cancer survivor, I believe that
if it were not for the divine intervention of
God, I would not be here today.

PRAISE FOR THE CURE, created by Anita T. Conner, Founder of the George E. Thorne Development Center , is a faith based initative to Motivate, Educate and Encourage African American women to get screenings for and treatment of breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  While breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, African American women are dying from this disease at higher rates than all other ethnic groups.   A number of select churches all over Philadelphia will participate in our citywide awareness effort by hosting “PRAISE FOR THE CURE SUNDAY” on October 5, 2008.  The program will include the distribution of informational materials to all church members in attendance to encourage women (and their families) to manage their health and to know the importance of early detection of certain cancers and treatment options available in Philadelphia and surrounding communities.
