October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, African American women
are dying from this disease at higher rates than all other ethnic groups.
Praise is the song of a soul set free. We know that “Praise” is the key that will open the door to break through any trial or challenging situation. PRAISE IS THE CURE will provide African American women with light on an extremely dark and frightening subject and we will celebrate those who have survived breast cancer. It is our intent to provide the community, current breast cancer patients and survivors with an optimum amount of service providers, information and quality access to what’s available with respect to superior care during this inspirational event. PRAISE CAFE Praise Café will be an afternoon of fellowship, food and fun with Praise Is The Cure’s network of survivors, their families and friends. The café also serves as the launch of “Real Men Wear Pink”. “Real Men Wear Pink” is a new initiative that intended to increase community awareness by educating men to understand breast health issues and learn how to be effective advocates for loved ones going through the difficult journey of recovery and healing from breast cancer. As part of Praise Cafe, recognition will be given to four men in our community who have supported GETDC’s Praise Is The Cure programs, have taken the lead in educating the community on breast health issues and have provided personal support to survivors. Praise Café will take place on June 20, 2009 from 2:30 – 5:00 PM at Center in the Park, 5818 Germantown Avenue, (Entrance and parking is off of Rittenhouse Street.) Ticket price is $10 and reservations are requested by calling 215.635.1025. Space is limited. Call and reserve your seat to join in the celebration of “hope, health and healing”. We look forward to seeing you there.
