PROFILE OF ANITA T. CONNER, M.S.T., C.P.A.
Anita T. Conner
is the founder, President and CEO of Anita T. Conner & Associates, P.C. a full service Certified Public Accounting and Financial Services firm.  Anita attributes her entrepreneurial spirit to her parents, the late Dorothy M. and George E. Thorne.  Anita remembers their lessons on empowerment through self-employment and knew she would someday run her own business.  To acquire the needed skills, Anita attended Drexel University , where she earned an accounting degree with honors.  She continued her education at the Philadelphia University , earning a Master’s Degree in Taxation, also with honors.

 

Professionally, Anita has worked as a tax accountant at Price Waterhouse & Co., a tax manager at Penn Mutual Life Insurance, Co. and CFO and Controller for Indepro. Corp., a subsidiary of Penn Mutual.  Additionally, she was an associate professor of Philadelphia University and Pennsylvania State University University.  Since 1988, Anita has concentrated her efforts on her own certified public accounting and consulting firm.  Building the business from the ground up, Anita currently has two offices and over 1500 clients.  As a licensed Financial Advisor, Anita’s objective is to solve her client’s business problems and introduce them to the benefits of investing and protecting their assets through some proven wealth building strategies.

 

Anita’s firm, also known as The Tax Divas, was voted the 2010 and 2009 Best Tax Preparation Service in Philadelphia Philadelphia, by the U.S. Commerce Association.  In 2008 the firm was voted the Best Tax Accountant in Northwest Philadelphia Philadelphia, by the Mt Airy Times. 

 

Anita believes in the concept of giving back to the community.  She is the Founder and Chairman of the George E. Thorne Development Center Center, (GETDC) a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.  The mission of this community-based organization is to empower individuals to control their destiny by equipping them with the essential tools needed in the areas of education, healthcare, finance and related issues.

 

Anita maintains a number of affiliations within the community.  She is a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Accountants, Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The National Association of Black Accountants, The National Black MBA Association, The National Association of Professional Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.  

 

Anita’s accomplishments have not gone unrecognized.  She has received over 40 citations and awards including the Urban League Business Leader Entrepreneurial Award, the North Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, the National Congress of Black Women Shirley Chisholm Award, the National Association of Black Accountants Professional Achievement Award, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Black Business Pioneers Award, the National  Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Professional Achievement Award, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Madame CJ Walker award, Citibank expert in the field of Accounting award, Philadelphia Business Journal Women of Distinction award, Southwest Belmont Pioneer award, Minority Women in Business Lifetime Achievement award, and the Salem Baptist Church Woman of the Year award to name a few.  Anita’s most recent award is the 2010/2011 “Professional Women of the Year” by the National Association of Professional Women for her outstanding leadership and commitment within her profession.

 

Anita is a sought after speaker and professional trainer.  Anita has appeared on many television and radio shows.  She also has been a contributing columnist to the Philadelphia Tribune and a consultant for Black Enterprise Magazine.

 

Anita believes that the principles of her formula for success, “Dream…Action…Desire”, if applied in faith will change your life forever.

 

Anita and her husband, John Kelvin Conner, Esq., are the proud parents of two children, Kerri Marie, a certified public accountant and partner at the firm, and John, Jr., executive director for the George E. Thorne Development Center .
